Speech and Debate - Speech and Debate Speech and Debate The speech and debate program will focus on building public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in participants by developing skills such as speech writing, delivery techniques, and debate strategies. Students will explore various debate formats and research contemporary issues to prepare for mock debates and potential competitions. Regular reflection sessions will help track progress and celebrate achievements. This is a fun, relaxed space for students to hang out, try new activities, and connect with friends in a safe, supervised environment. Speech and Debate - Speech and Debate Speech and Debate The speech and debate program will focus on building public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in participants by developing skills such as speech writing, delivery techniques, and debate strategies. Students will explore various debate formats and research contemporary issues to prepare for mock debates and potential competitions. Regular reflection sessions will help track progress and celebrate achievements. 5th Grade Fridays! - 5th Grade Fridays! Welcome to the Cormier Youth Center’s 5th Grade Fridays! Kick off the new year with a special, 5th-grade-only drop-in program every Friday after school. This is a fun, relaxed space for students to hang out, try new activities, and connect with friends in a safe, supervised environment. Are you a high school student who enjoys working with kids, giving back to your community, or earning community service hours in a meaningful way? Join us and connect with middle school youth (grades 6–8) through fun, supportive, and rewarding opportunities. Mentor (Volunteer Position)
Support staff-led programs and help create a welcoming space for middle school youth. As a mentor, you’ll:

Build relationships and serve as a role model

Program Leader (Creative/Leadership Role)

Design and lead your own weekly class or activity

Speech and Debate - Speech and Debate Speech and Debate The speech and debate program will focus on building public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in participants by developing skills such as speech writing, delivery techniques, and debate strategies. Students will explore various debate formats and research contemporary issues to prepare for mock debates and potential competitions. Regular reflection sessions will help track progress and celebrate achievements. By the end, participants will develop important skills for effective communication and self-expression.Students will improve in: Argument formation Presentation skills Impromptu SpeakingWeeks 1 & 2:In our first 2 classes we will befocusing on the basics of publicspeaking so students can conveyideas effectively: presentation skills.Weeks 3 & 4:In our next few classes, we willbegin developing argumentformation skills, which is essentialfor debates.Weeks 5 & 6:Finally, after learning the essentialskills for public speaking, we willimplement these skills throughengaging activities.Students should be available each Wednesday from 4PM-5PM and have access to their own laptop or chrome book as well as their own Google account.
