Make a Real Impact This Summer!
Spend your summer making a difference in your local community while having fun. The Community Service Summer Program is designed for students entering grades 6–9 who are eager to participate in hands-on service projects, and build lasting memories.
Letter of Interest Requirement:
All registered participants must submit their own written letter expressing their interest in the program and describing any previous volunteer experience. This requirement helps ensure that participants are genuinely committed, as our projects require effort, responsibility, and teamwork. While checking out a letter upload button will appear.
Program Options:
- Half Day: Monday-Thursday, 9 AM - 11:30 AM ($150)
- Full Day: Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 3:30 PM ($325)
- Extended Day: Monday- Thursday (pending)
Program Overview:
Half Day Option (Monday-Thursday, 9 AM - 11:30 AM)
Each morning, participants will engage in meaningful community service projects, such as:
- Working in the Community Garden
- Assisting with Meals on Wheels
- Partnering with a local nursing home for Bingo Buddies to connect with seniors
- Helping with Community Meal Services
- Providing Food Pantry Assistance
These projects provide hands-on opportunities to give back while experiencing the direct impact of your efforts. Please note they are subject to change as we coordinate activities for this summer and that pending projects may require slight alterations to the schedule sometimes requiring an earlier start.
Full Day Option (Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 3:30 PM)
For those who want to extend their day of service, the Outer Limits Summer Program offers exciting activities in the afternoons, from 12 PM - 3:30 PM. Youth would be able to participate in the remainder of the Outer Limits afternoon activities. Full day pricing includes cost of transportation, supplies, lunch, and field trip entry.
Afternoon Adventures Include:
- Swimming & Fishing at Pomp's Pond (Monday)
- Boating at the Greater Lawrence Boating Club (Tuesday/Thursday) (sailing, canoeing, kayaking
- Local Outdoor Activities (Wednesday) such as fishing at Rabbits Pond, going for a walk downtown, Library visit
- Field Trip Fridays – Each Friday, participants will head out on an exciting field trip.

Important Note for Full Day Participants:
- Swimming: participants in the full-day program who wish to take part in swimming or boating activities will be required to pass a swim test. This ensures every one's safety during water-based activities.
- Outer Limits: registrants will receive an additional Outer Limits email closer to the start date with information to help prepare for the week (off site information, dress attire etc).
- Additional expenses- if participants want to purchase snacks through AYS concessions, off site concessions or on the field trips they should bring additional spending money.
- Full Day Lunch Option: Participants attending the full-day program can bring their own lunch or enjoy a hot meal through the AYS kitchen. Pre-registration is required for the lunch option, and availability is limited.

Additional Details:
- Two T-Shirts Included: All participants will receive two program t-shirts to wear during community service and field trips.
- Application Requirement:
Each participant must submit a letter with their application sharing why they want to join the program and any relevant experience. Experience is not required! We welcome all kids who are passionate about community service.
- Completion Letter & Recommendation:
At the end of the program, participants will receive a letter documenting their completed service hours and a recommendation letter highlighting their contributions to the community.
