This course is designed to prepare lifeguard candidates to prevent, recognize, respond, and manage aquatic emergencies, breathing and cardiac emergencies, and standard first aid injury and illness emergencies. Course includes: Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid.
Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years of age and have the ability to demonstrate the following: complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest by jumping into the water and totally submerging; resurfacing, then swimming 150 yards using the front crawl, breast stroke or a combination of both; maintaining position at the surface of the water for two minutes by treading water using only the legs; swimming 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, and able to retrieve a 10-lb weight from seven feet of water; then swimming 20 yards, with legs only.
Upon successful completion of the lifeguard course, candidates will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification, a Standard First Aid certification and a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescue certification valid for two years.
Blended learning online work must be completed before the start of class.
